| SAT for Internationals | The SAT is generally required for all applicants at most colleges and universities. International students need to write the SAT as well as native students. On the other hand, colleges actually understand that international students may not be familiar with the SAT and therefore may not do as well as their American counterparts. This is particularly true for applicants whose native language is not English.
Do colleges give some leniency to international students with regard to the SAT? This depends on the college or the university the applicant wants to enter. Some colleges may have a policy concerning international candidates. A lot of others have no clear policies though. At some institutions, the dissimilarity between native students and internationals may be small.
No matter you are a native or international student, you should make an effort to do as well as you can on the SAT. There are many books devoted to SAT preparation on the market. College Board has produced a number of excellent preparation materials useful while your preparation for college entrance. You can also join one of the many preparation courses accessible these days.
SAT is also significant while entering the college, because international students with high critical reading scores have substantial benefits over other international candidates. As there will be a lot of internationals who will almost certainly not have scores in the high 700s in the critical reading section, scoring well earns you some benefit over the others. It shows your motivation to learn something completely new to you.
Besides, some universities will not insist on the TOEFL requirement if your critical reading score is above a certain threshold, as recognition of your English proficiency. Consequently, doing well on the SAT can only work in your favor.
