Next Steps When You're Aiming for a Bachelor's Degree

Nowadays, a bachelor's degree is critical to landing better job opportunities that have a higher salary grade and have better benefits than that of a job that do not require a higher educational attainment. Presently, majority or most of the jobs that are growing fast in pay-grades are that of in the fields of: science, technology, mathematics, arts and engineering - require a high educational attainment of some sort - a tertiary educational attaintment, at the minimum. And according to a study from the United States' Department of Labor - by the year 2020, 65% of all the jobs that are available will require an educational attainment that is post highschool.

This is why you should put your best foot forward in going to a tertiary learning institute that will help you in getting that degree - that will ultimately help you propel yourself forward and help you get your name above those who have not attained their degrees.

With this, how do you apply for your desired learning institute and how do you increase your chances of being accepted? Here are a few helpful tips:

  1. Highschool grades are very important! Why? This is the first thing that a company might look at: your GPA, and your academic standing. These are very important for companies that are focused on Sciences. Most especially when you are gunning for a position that is directly inclined with educational and academic work.

  2. Extra-curricular activities are as of equal value as your academic attainments. Holistic development is a strategy that learning institutes implement to produce well-rounded students that are excellent in both academic areas and extra-curricular works. In applying for a job, an applicant that has flying colors but with no extra-curricular experience can get beaten with an average academic line with tons of extra-curricular work. Extra-curricular work can reflect on an applicant's skill on time-management, work ethic and passion. To be able to balance academic work and outside work is a skill that tertiary schools look up to. That is why extracurricular work is just as important as your academic attainments. Balance is key!

  3. Do your own research! Study on the learning institute's bias and align your application toward these biases. If the learning institute banks on academic achievements, make sure to highlight your academic prowess - same goes if the institute banks on extra-curricular work. Make sure to do your own research and check out online resources.

  4. Interviews can make or break you! Sometimes institutes require an intensive interview - this is to test if you can sell yourself and your skills. This can be a sign of a great entrepreneur and this can be a sign of a great asset. So, make sure you prepare for your interview!
Some of these institutes look for competency at its finest because this is a trait of a good employee which is a sign of a great future leader. So, if ever you get in the institute that you are gunning for - always keep a competitive attitude because this will get you through your academic journey easier and you will make a name for yourself as early as your years in the tertiary.

Remember these important tips so that you can land your spot in the institute that you are gunning for. Good luck and make sure you always put your best foot forward!
